I'm tired. This war against trans people (for lack of a better term) is exhausting.
Even after seeing the backlash of passing an anti-transgender bathroom law North Carolina experienced on the sports front, Texas still wants to do the same thing. Enter Senate Bill 6: and attempt to ban transgender people from using the restroom that matches their gender identity. WE'VE ALREADY DONE THIS. TRANS PEOPLE JUST WANT TO PEE AND GO. Conservatives are so hard to swallow. On the one hand, they don't mind any and everyone having a gun. But on the other, don't you dare be trans and use the bathroom where you feel comfortable. How they can employ such sweeping mindsets is beyond me.
But here's where it gets interesting, because honestly, is anyone surprised by Texas trying to pass this law? I live here, so I'm certainly not. Texas being trash is nothing new. But it was a pleasurable sight to my eyes to see the NFL immediately stand up, bang the table, and say, "NOT ON MY WATCH!" <Iyanla.gif>
The NFL strolled up to the mic and said, "If a proposal that is discriminatory or inconsistent with our values were to become law there, that would certainly be a factor considered when thinking about awarding future events." In other words, "Try it if you want, and you will NEVER get this Super Bowl nookie again." It's nice to see a machine as huge as the NFL stand up and let it be known that they won't be supporting legalized bigotry. All of this on the heels of Lady Gaga's Super Bowl performance where she performed "Born This Way." Coincidence? I think not.
Texas lawmakers did a half backpedal, saying something to the effect that they individual venues hosting sporting events would be able to choose if they would enact this proposed law. 😒 Sure, Jan. Sure.
